Science-Fiction Adventure in the Far Future
Sub Sector

Artificial mapping unit in astrography, intended to delineate and define locations within the galaxy.

A subsector has an average density of 30 to 40 worlds.

Subsectors are noted within a Sector by their position using the first 16 letters of the alphabet (A-P). In addition, they are named and may be called by a variety of synonyms, including province, cluster, or district.

Imperial convention is to assign numbers to districts which are under Imperial protection, pending their integration into the Imperium. One example is District 268 in the Spinward Marches sector.

In most cases, the subsector is used as a governmental unit within the Imperium. At the fringes of the Imperium, subsectors continue to be defined and carried on maps beyond the Imperial borders.
